So since we went to the husband’s Christmas party where Santa came and handed out gifts Little Lue finally made a connection she had previously missed. The boxes under the tree are GIFTS!
We had been keeping a few boxes under the tree that we knew were gifts under the tree… They were still in their mailing packaging, so Little Lue really hadn’t given them much attention the few days they were there. But after the party… She realized what they were… So she grabbed a box, brought it over to us and said “Christmas present!” in the most adorable toddler voice eva. “Open the door!”
I’m not very good at waiting myself… so what the heck… Let’s open one.
Well… This turned into opening a box every day LOL!! There are now no more boxes under the tree and we have saved the rest of the gifts for tomorrow morning, Christmas Day, but it was still fun to have her open a few things so that it’s not totally overwhelming Christmas morning. I’m glad she got to enjoy a few things without the craziness of opening 10 things at once haha.
So since most of these gifts came from Nana’s house and she MUST have pictures. I decided to document as best I could. 😉
Yessss! A car or “Brum brum”
I was a bit worried about all the tiny pieces, but she loves them! Fine motor skills 😉
Luna’s turn for a random portrait
And mommy playing with her camera again… haha
Ok… Now this may have been more exciting for mommy than for Little Lue LOL!
Last week we had lots of precipitation forecasted, along with lower temperatures, and everyone (and by everyone, I mean that hand full of child like adults who still think snow is like magic falling for the sky) was hoping for snow… But sadly, all we got was some cold cloudy weather along with a few drizzles of rain. A little snow dusting one night (mostly on roof tops), only to melt by midday… That was it… Quite disappointing!
So you can image my dismay when the whole forecast for the upcoming weeks is clear/cloudy with 10-20% chance of precipitation… BOOOOOO!
Well, we were pleasantly surprised yesterday with the first snow fall! It snowed for about 3 hours and honestly I was just glued to the window staring at it. It would slow down and be nothing more than tiny specs of white, and them suddenly downpour with big chunky clumps of snow! So pretty…. Non of it stuck to the ground though… So it was just mostly fun to see. And of course as soon as I saw it I started dancing around like a kid, grabbed Lucy and the camera, threw on some coats and ran outside. (Quite impressive, as I’ve been avoiding the outside as much as possible the past month!)
So because we went out when it first started snowing, it wasn’t really very much coming down… and it was SO hard to photograph… But whatever, here are the pics I got.
It was so so SO pretty. I wish I could have captured it better. Oh well… at least Little Lue looked cute, right?
Adventures in Germany Continued
So a couple of weekends ago we were wondering what to do. I think that for daddy and I, our time in Key West had us soooo spoiled. We didn’t ever had to take long drives to do stuff, and it always felt like we had plenty to do. So here in Germany we hear of all these amazing cities and things to see, only to realize many of these spots are 2-4 hours away. Sure… It’s definitely a doable distance, but alas… We just loath being in the car for so long on… So our solution has been to scour the newspapers and anything we can get our hands on looking for random activities we could do closer to home. I’m not sure if it’s the upcoming holiday season, but there seems to always be a craft show or festival happening somewhere!
This weekend we spotted something a little more random… The yard sale page had an add for someone making Raw Apple Juice! Seemed interesting enough, so we decided to check it out.
It was actually really cool.
First you put the apples in a shredder!
Then you put the apple grinds into this giant pressor. Sure there are tiny ones you can use at home, but this one was much more impressive LOL.
If you are wondering… Yes, it did smell quite amazing!
Next, you had to press the apples… HARD!
And BAMMMM… Juice! Lots and lots of juice! Well… Cider, really
Did I mention it smelled amazing?
Little Lue decided we needed lots more…
Can’t really get more organic than that!
So after a day of treasure hunting at the flea market, wondering around Ramstein-Meisenbach through their little shops, and spending some time on the base BX searching for tiny dance leotards, there was still no nap.
At this point I figured Little Lue would just crash at 7pm or something… So instead of trying to force on sleep at 4pm, we decided to go on a walk.
Heading out the door I decided to grab my camera and make it a little photo walk. I’m glad I did. I kind of love some of these…
And this particular photo just spoke to me so much. It’s of this really young couple… I didn’t want to disturb them when we passed them, but I had to look back and take one shot. They were very blushy as we walked by, like they were meeting in secret. One of them had come in a motor cross bike, probably from another village… It just gave me that young love rushing feeling; crazy, forbidden, new, and exciting. Any how, I love how this photo came out. I want to make more artful pieces like this in the future
So I was minding my own business getting busy taking photos for you guys of my lovely backyard… Yes I know, I can’t stop talking about it, but that’s because #1 it really is that awesome, #2 I haven’t had one in 3 years ad I’m as excited about it as I will be about the first snow fall, #3 I really haven’t met that many people who are interested in talking about my backyard. So yeah, this is my blog right?!?! You faithful readers shall listen to my ramble! Thank YOU. LOL!!!
Ok so yeah… outside, perfect day, dogs running around like wild animals scavenging (scratch that, that’s just Luna, Bongo is sitting in the sun like a big potato), Little Lue is playing with her little slide and what not and I’m trying to be all creative with my photos. And then… It happens…
I completely forget what I’m doing because Littele Lue is being way too cute and I end up with a bunch of photos of her instead! (This actually happens quite often, can you tell?)
But this isn’t just ANY old cuteness, this is first-time-EVER-swinging-HERSELF-on-the-swing CUTENESS. Considering my daughter is only two (shameless brag) this was pretty impressive to me. I think the secret was extra low swings, which seems to be very common out here as we had seem them like that on a couple of play grounds.
This is her process. She sits her little tush on the seat *without falling or needing help* (honestly I was pretty happy with THAT accomplishment) and then she tiptoes herself as far back as she can and BOOM she lets go, feet pulled up high in front of her and she enjoys her swing all by herself! At first she started with “One, two, THREE! Weeeeee!” But somehow this morphed into “Eeeeeeeeyyyyy, Princess! Weeee!” Which sounds way funnier to be honest. LOL
So yeah, so much for photos of my swings, trees, and dogs. I have photos of Little Lue in her swing instead LOL.
And for those keeping track of me on FB, the Basil Plant LIVES!!! lol
When you’re a military wife, you sometimes get in the mentality that you will never have life-long friends. You know, the one who’s your next door neighbor for 30 years and you have coffee every Sunday morning with, and your kids are the same age and go to the same schools and your husbands are good buddies and you just hang out. And then one day you will live together in a house and be just like the Golden Girls and it will be epically awesome.
Well… you know… In my imagination, it would totally be like that.
But the reality of moving every 3 years kind of puts a kink into my friendship fantasy. And it’s a kind of a total downer when you’re the type of person that enjoys hanging out with other humans with common interests.
But for all you military wives out there, I’ve got some news for you, you really CAN have some good long time lasting friends. The magic of the internet and facebook has seriously facilitated keeping up with friends at a distance in a creepy sort of stalkerish way. But every now and then, you realize that the friend you have been so oddly attentive to you over the internet, has also been attentive to you. Why? Because, perhaps, somehow even if they are a billion miles away, they connect with you and want to actually still keep in touch, and hope you will meet again on a faithful day. They really ARE a friend. Awesome!
More good news for military wives, turns out there are only a hand full of bases for people to go to. And chances are, that faithful day really does come!
So when it came time for our big move to Germany, was delighted to know that one of the friends I had made over 4 years ago in Oklahoma was happily waiting to meet up with me again in Germany. Despite being over an hour away from where we were, Lucie made no hesitation to welcome us to Germany the first week we were there! Even took us house hunting to our now new home. Thank you, Lucie, for making this transition feeling like coming back home. At least a little!
This past weekend was her younger son’s 1st birthday! Our families have obviously changed since the last time we met. We now have a 2 year old daughter, and their own daughter is now 3, we met her as just a tiny little infant. Now she is a big sister! It’s just really neat to see how we have both grown. I loved seeing her new home and family. It all feels so new and so familiar all at once. It was also great to see our husbands meet again.
Anyhow… CASSIAN! This post was supposed to be all about you… LOL!!
Cassian is such a little man! OMG he’s so big, just like Little Lue was. Extra chunky and just a doll. He’s still not walking, but watch out, it’s coming up. He’s going to be chasing after Lexie pretty soon! I love his little foe hauk, by the way.
Of course we had lots of fun at the party. Little Lue surprised me by being a tad shy at first, but it wasn’t long before she was asking for cupcakes and trying to steal the birthday boy’s gifts.
And I think this is probably enough rambling, you’re totally ready for the photos. Right?
For more photos of Cassian’s Birthday HERE!
I kind of love this tiny play room.
It’s kind of an odd set up. This room is at the end of our hallway on the third floor. You have to walk into it to get to our bed room. And it has the only closet on that floor. So it functions as Lucy’s room, and our bedroom closet LOL! But it’s nice that it’s SO close, because one day… one far away non foreseeable day… when Lucy sleeps in her own bed and room, she will be RIGHT there. And that makes me happy. LOL The room is also down the hall form the sewing/office so it will be nice that while she sleeps I can hang out in my editing/blogging/sewing/general awesomeness room.
So anyhow, this is the room! It’s one of the few rooms that’s done being set up (only others that are mostly done are the kitchen and dinning/play room). I really wanted to get her toys out quickly so I could entertain her more so it just got done the fastest. I still need to get some little bins to put in the closet for her clothes. Hoping that we will buy some this weekend.
Everything fit like a glove here! And that giant window mixed with the room’s white walls is just so lovely. Talk about a photo studio huh?
Oh! And check out the little tea set I got her from the Polish Pottery store at the BX! It’s so adorable and she LOVES IT. She’s been doing tea parties (well, in our tea parties we drink coffee LOL) every morning and every evening. So far she’s been very gentle and I don’t think she will break it. I do have 2 spare cups and plates just in case haha. But she really does love it, she will try and sneak them to other rooms, but since they are so tiny I’d rather they only stay in this room so we don’t loose them! For some reason she’s been hiding them inside the book shelf for safekeeping. LOL
So yeah! This is it I love being in that room because it has no boxes haha. But you have to be prepared to drink a LOT of pretend coffee 😛
Oh… And there is something totally magical about seeing those Toy Story characters on the shelves… I’m not sure why, but it just feels like they are totally alive like the movie I think I might need to go shopping for a Woody. I can’t help it, I’m a Disney Kid!
So another Tuesday another visit to my favorite park!
I snapped some pictures for my friend, Kelly, who had her mom visiting. But I’m just going to post some of Little Lue and Kelly’s daughter. <3 I usually take pictures of just Little Lue or just Miss O, but today I tried some of them together for keepsakes when… you know… I have to do that thing called… moving…
BUT LETS NOT TALK ABOUT THAT!!!!
While editing I tried something a little different. It sort of darkens the edges and give the images a bit more focus on the subject/s. I really like this. It makes the pictures a bit darker (which is definitely different for me since I love my bright pictures. But I like how this brings more depths and sort of lures you in. It was hard not using this technique on ALL the pictures hahaha. What do you think?
And of course I’m still not over the Black and White images. I’m really loving them too.
So yeah, a little kiddy cuteness for your enjoyment.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of shooting a portrait session for Iraiset and her family. She had been wanting to get some shots done for her two year old daughter. She was so sweet and had such adorable ideas for the shoot. I hope I was able to capture some of what she asked for. It was great to meet her and her adorable daughter and husband.
So while editing I knew a lot of shots would look nice in black and white, but since I’m such a color addict it had been difficult to really experiment with anything B&W while I was trying to really get a good look with the colors. Well, today was the day that I decided to take the dive and try out some black and white images. And I think I’m in LOVEEEEEEE. After doing the first one, I wanted to do them ALL in B&W hahaha. Obviously, I didn’t do that, but it was really fun to try something different and new.
Without any further delay… here are a few images. <3
It was such a pleasure to shoot my last mom, Sylvia. She just had the sweetest demeanor and so easy to work with. And could her daughter have been any more adorable?! I think not (wait till you see those pictures!). It was truly a pleasure.
Sylvia even had a little surprise with her! She had brought this awesome big fluffy pink tutu for her daughter to wear in some of the pictures. And boy was it hard not to smile with that little one being engulfed by pink tule. It was just a cuteness explosion. Totally fun to shot, I think I will need to do more of these fluffy tutu shoots, cause I LOVED this.
So overal, the back to back mini sessions were definitely a great experience for me. I got to work with different families, each one brought their own style to the table, and their own little challenge for me. It was really fun to meet some new moms and I would love to work with all of them again some time.
Well… enough blabber from me… here are the pictures, enjoy!!
Today was my Mother’s Day shoot and it was SO much fun!
I decided to split up each of the mini sessions instead of writing up one post for every body because I can share more pictures of each session that way hehehe…
So on to the first mommy, Elyse!!!
This adorable mommy and baby boy were just to die for. He was just a chunky happy little man who was having a blast checking out the garden. You could tell that he’s at that age where they are really paying attention to their surroundings and enjoying this new found world.
It was so fun and easy to shoot this family. It was hard to mess this one up, and yet… I did! I almost cried when I realized I had an incorrect setting on the camera. And while I managed to work around this mistake while processing the pictures, it was still a BIG lesson for me. This wasn’t a happy accident like last time. It was mistake and I’m still kicking myself about it! Anyhow, lesson learned. ALWAYS check ALL settings before starting a shoot.
That being said, I love how this is all one big learning process. It’s amazing how much I learn from each family, each location, each editing session. I love this stuff!!!
Alright, without any further delay… Here are some gorgeous shots from this morning!
Now here’s a family I can’t get enough of!
Erika and her three little ones charged into the garden, and let me tell you, there was no stoping them! Here’s my question to more experienced photogs, how to take pictures of multiple ACTIVE children?! hahaha
We chased around those kids and as soon as we had two of them haming it up and giving us a big smile a third was off chasing butterflies! Or maybe everyone was miraculously looking as I’m double checking the camera settings, AHHHH!! DONT MISS THE PICTURE!!!!
Now THAT was another great learning experience. I need to bring some kind of kid attention grabbing tools. Maybe some little toys or stickers or candy. IDK something fun to give the kids at the end of a session or to give them something to look at that’s more interesting than a camera.
Regardless, it was hard not catch a few good ones <3 A beautiful family, beautiful setting, and a gorgeous day make for some amazing pictures.
