It feels like forever since I was able to walk outside without a coat or jacket… And this past week I think it’s safe to say the weather is turning and Spring is HERE!! Sunshine and 50 degree weather, what more could I ask for?! (ok ok… so 80’s and a beach would be nice, but I will take the 50’s over 30-40 any day!!)
No jackets!!! YEAH!!
Butterflies and bees!!! YEAH!!!
Windows open all day!!! YEAH!!!
I am a happy camper…
Oh and look… Remember that huge chunk of land out behind the kitchen, that’s called a BACK YARD!! YES!!! lol
Digging in the dirt… Seriously I think this is the first time Lucy has ever actually PLAYED with dirt (and not sand) LOL!
Puppies in the sunshine
The wheelbarrow made everything more fun!
Oh look! My swing!
Picked some flowers to make a garden… I think we need to start our real garden now
I have been looking for some wide angle lenses to play with because I really want to practice shooting some scenery. It would also be nice to get a better view when shooting in cramped spaces where space is limited.
Anyhow, while it wasn’t on my wish list, my husband informed me that he had ordered me an 18-55mm! (My little eBay addict lol) As I headed out for my morning walk, I decided to give it a little test run. To my surprise I really didn’t feel interested in capturing any type of scenic action, so instead I turned to my puppies. And what a fun surprise that was.
After shooting exclusively with a 50mm I was starting to forget how fun it is to experiment with a bit of a different perspective!
At 18mm this lens really blows up whatever is up close and I LOVE the result it had on some close ups of Bongo. He looks so goofy and fun!
All of my mornings start the same way. You could say it’s our ritual, only to be altered once a week when the husband is actually still home when I wake up.
As soon as my daughter is up, she gets her bathroom break and we are ready to go.
I grab the leashes and Luna is already going nuts. She manically paces by the door ignoring my instructions to stay still as I get Little Lue settled in the stroller. Bongo just sits and watches.
A sippy cup with water, some fruit or cheese to munch on, maybe some cereal in those little containers with hard to spill lids, and we’re off.
First thing every morning, walk the dogs… They get their business done, but we keep going… There is an empty field a little ways away from the house where I like to let the dogs loose and run, jump, chase, sniff, and wonder. We don’t have a fenced in yard in our home, so this is their chance to really be dogs. It’s short lived, but enjoyed. Sometimes we come back in the evening, as well.
For the dogs this is play time, for Little Lue it’s “pre breakfast snack time”, and for mommy it’s thinking time. Even when I’m in a hurry to get back to the house it’s hard for me not to slow down my pace and let my mind wonder. It’s hard to explain where my thoughts go, because it’s really everywhere. From folding laundry, to reflecting on relationships, to the meaning of our existence.
I think this routine has had a profound impact on me spiritually. Something about walking out and staring into that endless ocean… The wind whispering in your ear… The sun warm and inviting… Every morning I have this quiet time (almost) to myself and it just helps me start my day feeling as if I’ve taken a large deep breath of life.
Ahhh… It feels good.
